Welcome! My name is Julia and I am a health coach and new mom. As women, we are all busy, and many of us have issues which are holding us back from living our lives to their full potential, from digestive discomfort to struggling with confidence and body image. I love to support women overcoming these challenges and creating healthy, vibrant, balanced lives.
I want to help women improve their lives through diet and lifestyle choices because I know personally how much simple, healthy changes can affect every aspect of your life. I have struggled with my weight since I was 12 years old. Along with weight issues came other hormonal issues, including acne and painful PMS, all of which affected my confidence. Over the years, I went to personal trainers and many doctors, including an endocrinologist. When nothing worked, I consulted with various holistic practitioners from naturopaths to Reiki masters. These practitioners each helped me in different ways, but only through a combination of dietary and lifestyle changes have I seen changes in my body. In my early 20s, I studied nutrition on my own and experimented with various diets. Through dietary changes and a fitness routine I lost 20 pounds while in college. However, after college I enrolled in law school and much of the weight I had lost returned. Even though I now had my own kitchen, finding time to cook was hard, and finding the time and energy to exercise was even harder. At this point the importance of mental health, especially reducing stress, became apparent. Beginning a yoga and meditation practice and recommitting myself to the study of health and nutrition has helped me regain control over my body and my life. My formal journey to becoming a health coach began at this time. At the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I learned about over 100 different dietary theories and how to best guide and support clients to make small changes to improve their health and happiness.
A whole new health journey began when I became pregnant in early 2012. When we were trying to conceive, I became passionate about fertility, pregnancy and postpartum health. I read as much as I could get my hands on; by midway through my pregnancy I had an entire bookshelf devoted to fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum. I really enjoyed my pregnancy, despite horrible “morning” sickness during the first trimester, and in December 2012 I had a beautiful, perfectly healthy baby girl. I feel blessed every day to be her mom. However, in the first few months after her birth, I struggled to balance caring for the baby, dealing with low breast milk supply, and really caring for myself and my health. Once I recommitted myself to focusing on my health again I started making changes, such as going for daily walks and doing yoga with the baby, adjusting my food choices, and making more time for my husband and for myself. I started to see my weight slowly decrease and I started feeling more energized and confident. And I remain passionate about fertility, prenatal, and postpartum health, as well as women’s health in general. I am constantly working to improve myself, and it is a beautiful journey.
